Club Captains Yarn

28 July, 2009 - Rob Magrath

Point form today boys coz I’ve got a few mentions:

- Congratulations Ant Woutersz for playing his 100th (and 101st!) game on Saturday. A great clubman and always the first to strap on his boots for a 2nd game when the call goes out – well done mate, I’m sure the next hundred will fly by just as quickly!

- The win to first grade on Saturday – as I said at speeches, a win in first grade belongs to the whole club. Getting the numbers backing up through the grades means that first grade can run on fresh, players sticking around means we have reserves, and a vocal crowd is worth more than you realize until you’re playing in front of one. So thank you and congrats to all, first grade wins have been hard to come by and everyone who turned up on Saturday owns a piece of this one.

- A good weekend throughout the grades (3 bonus points wins, 1 bonus point loss and 1 other loss) has given us a small buffer from the bottom of the Div 2 club champs table, but let’s keep working to make sure of it over the next 4 weeks.

- Finally, we’ve had a few great training sessions over the last few weeks since the committee and coaching staff sat down to map out a few ideas - if you haven’t been lately come along and see what everyone’s raving about. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30, with $1 hotdogs after training.

Play of the Day:

It’s actually Play of the Week this time, as there was just to much to choose from on Saturday. It’s a team effort from Errol and Feleti on Thursday night which still has us all laughing at the memory. Freddy – I don’t know what you were expecting when he told you to run, I don’t know what any of us were expecting, but goddam if that wasn’t one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time! Add to that the fact that he chose to do it on the cricket pitch.. If a picture’s worth a thousand words, the look on your face was worth a whole book! Cheers boys.. (and if you don’t know what I’m referring to then come to training this week!)
